It's a long time since I've had a summer as open and unencumbered as this one appears to be. Normally my parents would be shuttling me off to Paris the moment exams ended (not that I'm complaining), or I would be packing my bags for a writing workshop. There aren't as many writing workshop opportunities available for college students, however, and my parents went to Paris without me recently, so my summer is yawning ahead of me. So far I'm planning to intern at the Newport International Film Festival (in Newport, RI), and to get a job either tutoring or in a bookstore someplace. Of course, I intend to spend as much time writing as possible. I'm in the process of unpacking and sorting through my school papers, but soon I'll have my typewriter all set up and everything will be ready for the ultimate writing experience. My friends, coincidentally, were delighted by the typewriter charm I have on my necklace. I owe them many typewritten letters. There's nothing quite so cool.
